Crafts Night

Crafts Night with CUPE 3913

24Apr

Whine & Dine

Dear UofG grad students,

There’s no denying that money (e.g., grad student funding, grants, TA wages) is a sore spot for many of us. In fact, did you know that 70% of TAs believe that wages and/or funding should be increased to reflect the current cost of living?

Join us on Wednesday, May 3rd from 12pm-1pm at The Lookout (5th floor of the UC by the North elevators) for the inaugural Whine & Dine - an event organized by grad students for grad students so that we can come together and discuss important issues while enjoying some free food. This month, we will be focusing on FUNDING & WAGES.

This event is open only to UofG grad students, though all grad students are welcome to attend.

Please RSVP so we can have a sense of numbers for ordering food: https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=K6Fivq0soUml-oX08xVqfesTuAq2J9hJomSxkGuOUm9UNU1ETkhVTVlWM1RMUjBHNEhHVEU5M1Q5Ri4u

Sponsored by: UofG Grad Student Coalition; GSA; CUPE 3913; Canadian Federation of Students - Ontario; Student Life Enhancement Fund (SLEF)

Last reminder: join us for another round of Trivia at The Lookout tomorrow (21st April) from 5-7PM! We will provide swag, and CUPE3913 Executive members will be present to answer any questions you may have.

See you there!

Dear members,

The members of CUPE 3906, the union representing Teaching Assistants, Research Assistants-in-lieu, Sessional Faculty, and Postdoctoral Fellows at McMaster University, are on strike as of today (November 21st) for higher wages and tuition reimbursement and to challenge years of poor treatment by their management.

We need to join their picket line in solidarity to support their efforts to improve the lives of their members. Their struggle is our struggle and that of workers in Ontario, across Canada, and around the world. If we support them now, they will in turn support us in our time of need.

We know this is a busy time of the year, but if you have a morning or an afternoon that you can join the collective efforts and support the strike of CUPE 3906, please consider doing so. They will be picketing from 7am-5pm Monday to Friday at three main campus locations: Sterling at University, Cootes Drive at the entrance to Lot M parking, and the Cootes Drive campus/go bus entrance. We can organize trips to McMaster. If you would like to join us or have any further questions, please reach out to us at president@cupe3913.on.ca.

Cheers,
Chris Hempel, Vice-President Internal

Dear members,

CUPE will be holding a second rally in solidarity with CUPE education workers tomorrow (Monday, 7th November) at the same location as Friday (in front of the office of Guelph’s Member of Provincial Parliament, Mike Schreiner, 173 Woolwich Street) from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. On Friday, there was excellent representation from different CUPE locals and other Unions, such as the Steelworkers Union and the Nurses Union, and lots of support from passerby.

Please consider joining the rally! The use of the notwithstanding clause and the introduction of Bill 28 are an unprecedented assault on workers' rights that may affect your present and future working life in this province and will have a devastating economic and social effect. An attack on one Union is an attack on all Unions and all workers.

If you live outside of Guelph, CUPE National has released a website that allows members to find the nearest rally to where you live: https://cupe.on.ca/dontbeabully/.

Cheers,
Chris Hempel, Vice-President Internal

Dear members,

A rally to stand in solidarity with CUPE education workers is happening RIGHT NOW in Guelph until 4PM in front of the office of Guelph’s Member of Provincial Parliament, Mike Schreiner, at 173 Woolwich Street. Other CUPE locals and members of the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) and the Ontario School Board Council of Unions (USBCU) are present.

Please consider joining the rally! This is an unprecedented assault on workers' rights that may affect your present and future working life in this province and will have a devastating economic and social effect.
