It has been a busy semester, and we are glad to produce the first newsletter of the 2020 – 2021 academic year. Going forward we will be publishing a newsletter and the end of every month, delivering important information to members about all aspects of Union life and work.
Your Department and College Stewards have already begin circulating news and updates to you, and they will continue to do so throughout the semester. We hope that both sources of information you will get involved with your Union.

Union Holiday Closing and New Phone Number
The Union will close for the holidays on Friday, December 18, 2020, and will reopen on Monday, January 4, 2021.
Please note that if you submit a claim anytime after Monday, December 14, there may be up to and including a three (3) week processing delay.
As of Tuesday, December 1, 2020, CUPE 3913’s new phone number will be (519) 265-1994. Our old phone number will not be in use on and after this date.
2021 CUPE 3913 Elections
The CUPE 3913 Elections are coming up next semester. Here is some important information to keep in mind.
The 2021 Election Timeline is as follows:
- Nomination Period: January 28 – February 4
- Campaign Period: January 29 – March 2
- Voting Period: March 3 – 17
- Results Announced: March 18
The process will be explained in detail at the Winter Membership Meeting, on Thursday, January 28, 2021 @ 7:00 PM, which will be recorded and made available to all members.
Please note that voting will be exclusively carried out online, and only Members in Good Standing may vote.
You may become a CUPE 3913 Member in Good Standing at any time. Simply complete and sign the form, then send it to the President at firstname.lastname@example.org If you have any questions about the Member in Good Standing campaign, you may also contact the President for more information.

Open, Contested, and New Executive Committee and Caucus Positions
The following Open positions for the Executive Committee will be on the ballot for the 2021 CUPE 3913 Election. (‘Open’ means that the members currently occupying the role will not be running again.)

The following Contested positions for the Executive Committee will be on the ballot for the 2021 CUPE 3913 Election. (‘Contested’ means that the members currently occupying the role will be running again).

Winter Membership Meeting (WMM) Announcement
The WMM will take place on Thursday, January 28 at 7:00 PM. The primary focus of this meeting will be the election process. The Election timeline will be discussed, as well as the process of nomination, campaigning, and voting.
There will also be Committee Reports and news from the Executive.

As many of you are aware, we have launched a new and improved website, which includes an updated benefits portal. If you have not received a welcome letter with your login details please contact email@example.com and we will provide you with that information. Please also note that the system requires you to enter a mobile number and personal email address before you can make a claim for benefits. You will also need to set up your dependents individually. Claim balances for each individual family member are tracked separately, so please submit individual claims separately.
The coverage for Unit 1 members remains the same, $300 per family member for vision services/products (eye exam, glasses, contact lenses, prescription sunglasses) and $300 for mental health claims that are reimbursed at 50% per claim (Counselling only). Unit 2 members have $1000 per family member and covers expenses laid out in the CRA income tax act. Once the $1000 coverage has been exceeded, Unit 2 members have an additional $200 for prescriptions only.
Members have benefits coverage up to 1 year after their last work assignment, so for example if your last work assignment was Fall 2020, then your coverage would expire at the end of Fall 2021. For claims made this academic year (Sept 2020-August 31, 2021), members have until September 15, 2021 to submit those claims for review.
