FAQs about Health Benefits

Health Benefits 

The benefits period runs during any given academic year (e.g. for 2022/2023, the academic year begins September 1 2022, and ends August 31, 2023). Any claims for that period must be accrued during the academic year, and submitted by the end of the academic year.

What benefits do I have? How do I claim them?

Unit 1 members are eligible for:

  • $300 in vision expenses (eye exams, glasses, contact lenses, prescription sunglasses) per family member, and 
  • $300 in mental health expenses (50% co-pay per claim, counselling only) per academic year. Prior to submitting a claim to CUPE3913, a claim must be submitted through the GSA insurance.

Coverage period: one (1) year after last work assignment (e.g. if your last work assignment was in the Fall 2022 semester, you are able to submit claims until the end of the Fall 2023 semester. 

Unit 2 members are eligible for:

  • $1,000 per family member per academic year for expenses such as: prescriptions, massage, eye care, dental care, physiotherapy, counselling, prescribed cannabis, and any expense that CRA deems a medical expense, and
  • an additional $200 for prescriptions only. 

Coverage period: one (1) Year after last work assignment. (e.g. if your last work assignment was in the Fall 2022 semester, you are able to submit claims until the end of the Fall 2023 semester. 

Claims are submitted on the CUPE3913 website after logging in (after logging in click ‘dashboard’ to go to the benefits submission section). You should have received a welcome email that includes your login information. Before your first claim you must fill out your contact information on the benefits submission section of the website.
