Manuel Marques, our long-serving Labour Relations Coordinator (LRO), has accepted a job at York University. His last day of work was this past Friday, March 26.
As LRO, Manuel lead the Union on the many grievances and arbitrations CUPE 3913 brought to the University, dealing with such issues as overwork, wrongful hiring, and harassment and discrimination. His encyclopedic understanding of the Collective Agreement, good humour, and his passion to serve our members made working with him a joy and an education.
Manuel was also a vital member of the bargaining team in the last round in 2019-2020, bringing everything he had to ensure that the power of our Collective Agreement only increased to improve the life and work of our members in their time at the University of Guelph. What we have to build on now is in large part thanks to him.
He helped so many members in need of representation, and he will be missed. If you are one of those people and you wish to thank him with a message, please send them to firstname.lastname@example.org by April 30, 2021, and we will send them to him.
The Union will be conducting a hiring search this summer. We will keep you posted.
