In October 2020, the CUPE 3913 Membership voted in favour of granting me full-time status (35 hours a week), so that I have the hours to work beyond the ten (10) hours assigned to the position of President in the bylaws. This was a long-term appointment that will end on April 30, 2025, and was subject to, of course, the election process, as well as the approval of the Executive who would vote at the April Executive Committee meeting to extend the appointment for an additional year.
This past April, the Executive voted not to extend the appointment. This vote automatically triggers a special membership meeting in which I will plead my case to allow my full-time appointment to extend to April 2023, and for those who voted against the extension to argue their position. Following this, the membership will vote on the motion to extend; the details on voting will be released closer to the meeting date. All members within their Political Membership (who have had a work assignment within the last four (4) months) will be allowed to vote.
The special membership meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 26 @ 7:00 PM. The meeting will be recorded, and accommodations for those members who cannot attend to vote will be made.
Dr. Scott Duchesne, President, CUPE 3913.
