CUPE 3913 Election Procedures and Timeline

Hi everyone,

I hope your holiday break was a restful one, and I wish everyone a better year.

I hope to post a list of open and contested Steward positions, both College and Department, as soon as possible.

In the meantime, this article is concerned with the procedures and timeline of the upcoming CUPE 3913 election. I will be presenting this information at the CUPE 3913 Winter Membership Meeting on Thursday, January 28 @ 7:00, along with updates from Executive Committees. ELECTION TIMELINE & Procedures

January 28, 2021: Nomination Period Begins. A fillable PDF nomination form for the election will be posted on this website, and it will be distributed to members by their department stewards. You will complete the form, and then submit it to our Elections Officer at elections@cupe3913.on.ca. If the form is not completed when you submit it, the Elections Officer will return it to you to be completed. If the form is not revised by the end of the Nomination Period, it will not be accepted. Note: Candidates must be a Member in Good Standing (MGS). If they are not, they must submit a MGS form by the nomination deadline. They must also be within their political membership with the Union (they need to have been assigned a work assignment in the last year, i.e. W20 or later).

January 29, 2021: Campaign Period begins. Once your nomination form is submitted and accepted, candidates may campaign for their position for thirty (30) days. It is the plan of the Executive Committee to create a space on this website during the campaign period for candidates to submit a 250 word statement in favour of their candidacy.

February 4, 2021: Nomination Period Ends. If you do not submit a completed nomination form to elections@cupe3913.on.ca by Thursday, February 4 at 11:59 PM, you will not be eligible to run as a candidate in the election. If you are interested, please ensure you submit the form before this date and time.

February 24, 2021: Deadline to Submit a Member in Good Standing (MGS) Form to Vote. You are not permitted to vote unless you have completed, signed, and submitted a MGS form to the president at president@cupe3913.on.ca. You can find a fillable PDF form on the website at the link below. MGS forms will not be accepted after 11:59 PM on this day.

Tuesday, March 2, 2021. Campaign Period ends. A candidate is not permitted to campaign on and after this date. The Election Officer will be monitoring for campaigning, and if a candidate is caught campaigning on or after this date, they will be disqualified.

Wednesday, March 3, 2021: Voting begins. Voting will take place online. If you are a MGS by February 24, or if you submitted your MGS form by February 24 at 11:59 PM, you will receive an email on March 3 that outlines the voting process. Voting will run until March 17 at 11:59 PM.

Wednesday, March 17, 2021: Voting ends. There will be no ‘late’ voting.

Thursday, March 18, 2021: Spring Membership Meeting. The results of the election will be announced at this meeting and on the CUPE 3913 website.
